Camden Council has just published the third annual review of their Climate Action Plan 2020-2025, their five-year programme of projects and activities organised around the themes of People, Places, Buildings and Organisations.
The update highlights they have done with local community energy groups including how:
  • They have been supported: by our brilliant partners such as Power Up North London, Think and Do and the Somers Town Future Neighbourhood community
  • Camden is also supporting community action to drive retrofit. Think & Do and Power Up North London hosted a “Energising Communities : Let’s talk about a whole home approach to energy” stakeholder event seeking to find new models of collective working and engagement to tackle the challenges facing North London communities around energy and climate change. The Council are working with T&D and PUNL to move forward the recommendations. The Inkerman Resident’s SustainIARA group along with the Retrofit Kentish Town are local groups working to educate and support Camden residents to retrofit their homes
  • Works on the community funded project to support the installation of 200 solar panels was completed in June 2023. The project was completed alongside Power Up North London, who raised £80,000 through a community share offer to fund the project. The panels now provide electricity to the leisure centre throughout the year and is reducing the centre’s carbon footprint by approximately 12 tCO2e per annum.
