In 2025 CREW was awarded an initial tranche of £397,000 from which Wandsworth’s Neighbourhood Renewal Fund which is funded through the Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL). This opportunity allows CREW to work with Wandsworth Council to decarbonise local buildings which is an exciting new avenue for the two to work together on.
The funding is to support local organisations with feasibility studies, planning and surveys, capital projects and funding bids to further their decarbonisation plans.
The four initial projects are:
- Kimber Skate Park
- Katherine Low Settlement
- DRCA
- St Barnabas Church
A further seven projects are being reviewed by the council with the possibility for up to 40 projects.
Below are a brief overview of two of these exciting new projects – beyond tradition solar pv.

Kimber Skate Park
Technologies:
- Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP)
- Building Management System (BMS)
- LED Lighting
- Hydromx heat transfer solution
- Solar PV
- Battery storage
- Solar-powered device charging cables
The skate park building has a number of heating issues which could be counteracted with measures such as a BMS to zone areas and Hydromx heat transfer fluid for more efficient heating.
Upgrading lighting to LEDs is forecast to cut energy consumption by 50% and a combination of air source heat pumps and 63 solar panels could make the skatepark a net energy exporter, even becoming carbon negative.
Annual savings:
- 11 tonnes of CO2 equivalent
- ~£6,000 on energy bills
St Barnabas Church
Technologies:
- Hydromx heat transfer solution
- Destratifier fans
The church has an extremely high gas consumption of 100,000kWh/annum. These measures aim to reduce heating demand, warm up times and improve comfort.
Annual savings:
- 9 tonnes of CO2 equivalent
- £3,800 on energy bills
