Toby has been involved with community energy since 2016 as a CREW member and as director since 2020. Toby has 20+ years of experience in the energy sector and 10+ years in renewables and energy efficiency. He has helped CREW grow from a first project in 2017 to a £1m business this year. Toby has helped CREW deliver a number of firsts for the sector in London including a lighting services agreement, heat pumps with heat as a service and the development of new technologies like heat transfer solutions and carbon fibre heating. He has also built CREW’s energy advice service from scratch to a point where it supports over 3000 residents across 4 boroughs and supports the roll out of 1000’s of winter warm packs each winter.
Why do I want to become a director of CEL: While the sector is maturing, many groups remain stuck in a permanent startup phase. I would like to help these groups grow, understand new technologies and help access funding for growth. I am also interested in how we can use the power of the collective for procurement, software sharing, back office support, governance and fundraising.
