Transfer of 36MWp of clean energy assets boosts amount of solar capacity in the hands of local communities in England and Wales by 20 per cent
Five communities in England and Wales have taken ownership of eight solar farms in a deal that has been hailed as the biggest ever transfer of community energy assets in the UK.
The deal, announced this morning, is expected to provide more than £20m in funding from surplus revenues to the five community groups involved.
Operating under an umbrella group called Community Energy Together, Wight Community Energy, Gower Power, Kent Community Energy, Shropshire and Telford Community Energy, and Yealm Community Energy have secured ownership of the portfolio of solar farms.
