Council Carbon Offset Survey Report

As mentioned at recent CEL monthly meetings – please see the GLA’s recent carbon offset survey report.
It highlights that – since October 2016 when the GLA’s zero carbon planning policy requirement for residential development came into force – some £50m has been secured by London planning authorities from carbon offset payments.  Around £10m of this is actually been paid to councils – with a further £40m secured through legal agreements and will be paid as developments come forward (ie constructed).
Borough levels of payments secured are set out in the report. At CEL we will be looking at routes to how groups could approach their council and encourage them to set up community energy funds (as Islington, Camden and Lewisham have done) at our January 30 2020 monthly meeting.
