Our Organisation

Dedicated to growing the community energy sector

By connecting groups, sharing knowledge, and influencing policy, we’re helping to grow a movement where energy is owned by and for the community.

Who We Are

CEL was founded with the aim of facilitating collaboration among London-based groups to exchange experiences, resources, and knowledge, while also encouraging the formation of new groups and advocating for greater public sector support for community energy initiatives.

Supporting Communities with Energy Knowledge

We are a membership organisation, focused on decarbonising and democratising London’s energy system. We support community groups to tackle energy issues and inform policy to grow the community energy sector.

How We Can Help

We support our members through producing research and resources, facilitating peer-to-peer learning, hosting regular capacity-raising workshops as well as monthly meetings with a wide range of speakers. CEL regularly works with local councils, the GLA and national government to support community energy and expand their policies/offerings. We also support businesses to engage in community energy projects through our supplier and member networks.

Expertise

We bring together technical know-how, local knowledge, and practical experience to support community energy projects across London. From solar installations to retrofit advice, we help groups turn ideas into impact.

Funding

We guide groups through funding options, from community share offers to government or philanthropic grants. Our goal is to make community energy financially viable and sustainable.

Policy

We work to influence local and national policy so community energy can thrive. By representing grassroots voices, we ensure policies support a fair, low-carbon future led by communities.
