Evening Standard letter ‘Electric vehicles and solar power’
A letter from our Chair at CEL to the Evening Standard, published on 14th September 2018.

“While it was good to read that the Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling, has committed to providing funding to speed up the introduction of new electric vehicle charging points [“Chris Grayling pledges thousands more charging points in electric cars push”, Sept 11], the Government still hasn’t set out where the additional power for this switch to electric vehicles (EVs) will come from.
Concerns about London’s ability to shift to EVs are already being raised.London has the lowest amount of solar power generation of any region in the country, though a huge potential for small solar generation schemes remains. But at the same time that incentives for EVs are coming through, support for solar is being shut down by government, and community energy groups are struggling to move projects forward. It’s time to get co-ordination across government to help ensure that we get a cleaner, smarter energy and transport system for London.”
